>> MODERN JAZZ QUARTET

One of the biggest double-bass players of jazz history has left us. Ray Brown died aged 75, in his sleep, after a golf match around Indianapolis. At the end of the 40ies he played with Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Bud Powell
and Max Roach. He also played with Milt Jackson before Jackson formed the MJQ. In 1952, Ray married Ella Fitzgerald, and started to play with Oscar Peterson. From the mid-Sixties, he directed his own groups, in which, for example, Shelly Manne, Bud Shank and Monty Alexander were playing. He also worked with Quincy Jones.
